Matrix:

Energy rate your windows without increasing cost

Independent testing information

Research by independent testing house Build Check Ltd comparing warm edge technology has confirmed that windows made using Super Spacer can consistently achieve ‘A’ ratings with the majority PVC-U window systems. Super Spacer also achieves A, B and C ratings across a wide range of timber and aluminium window systems.
When choosing the right warm edge technology (WET) it is useful to refer to the Pii research conducted by the Glass and Glazing Federation - this categorises the various WETs into low, mid and high performance with Super Spacer listed as high performance. Our own matrix of warm edge technology suppliers is also a useful guide to help you decide on the best warm edge product to give you the high thermal performance you need to produce the most energy efficient glazing units and windows without adding substantial cost.

  1. Has it passed EN 1279 Parts 2 and 3 with an accredited body, e.g. BSI (British Standards Institution), IFT Rosenheim (Institut für Fenstertechnik GmbH) or TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research)?
  2. Can it be made on a range of machinery solutions including manual, semi automation and a high-productivity fully-automated production line?
  3. Can it be manufactured at cost parity with aluminium spacer bar when consumable price, production capacity and labour are taken into account?
  4. Can it demonstrate complete flexibility in shape manufacturing capacity, producing arches, triangles, inside and outside radii etc.?
  5. Does it have a warm edge integral bar capacity?
  6. Is it labour saving – i.e. manufactured with less labour than traditional aluminium spacer systems?
  7. Can the product achieve a minimum ‘C’ rating in the BFRC Window Energy Rating scheme when combined with 4mm Pilkington K Glass, argon gas and 4mm float glass, within a three chambered window system with a 0.01 air leakage rate?*
  8. Is it stocked in the UK (by a manufacturer or recognised distributor), and available to all manufacturers?
  9. Does it have full marketing support (literature which can be customised to individual customer requirements, point of purchase displays, PR etc.)
  10. Does the product benefit from a UK-wide installer/fabricator network – i.e. can it be purchased anywhere in the UK in its consumable state, within a sealed unit or within a finished window?
